In my early career I worked as a teacher and then as a trainer of communication and counselling skills. I now regularly make presentations nationally and internationally, as well as designing and running workshops on relationship and self-development issues.
These are a few of my training highlights:
– presenting the Relationships workshop as part of the Guardian Masterclass course New Year New You
– designing and facilitating workshops on The Eternal Triangle as a CPD course for counsellors at the Relational Spaces network, Relate, and Relationships Scotland
– designing and facilitating the one-day workshop Teaching Clients to Reduce Relationship Conflict for Grayrock, providers of training to therapeutic practitioners
– helping market research agency Acacia Avenue to apply relationship research to brand consultancy
For several years I served on the London Faculty of the worldwide training organisation The School of Life, offering workshops on relationships and intimacy. I also wrote and designed courses for The School – one of those courses then led to co-writing my most recent book How to Choose a Partner.
Other enjoyable past training projects have included: presenting two relationship workshops at The Greatest Adventure Festival – Love in the Time of Tinder at Hay-on-Wye for The Institute of Art and Ideas; running a variety of workshops at the Love, Sex and Intimacy Fair, Brighton; delivering communication workshops for actors at the Royal and Derngate Theatre, Northampton; presenting to the Inspired Group, Cambridge; presenting a class on Love and Communication at the Old Vic theatre, London.
John Dunkley, Director Grayrock, UK : We have been working with Susan since 2016 and she has facilitated some excellent courses with us achieving audience satisfaction ratings exceeding 90% and some lovely comments :-“Excellent, easily digestible”, “Hit the spot”, “A really good training day”, “Fully achieved through excellent facilitation and group contribution”, “Very good – made me think again about different approaches”, “Highly applaud”
Caroline Hayter, founder of Acacia Avenue, London: We asked Susan to be involved in our event, as a provocateur from a completely different world. As a marketing company, we’re continually interested in why people connect with the brands they do. Susan gave us a broader perspective on why humans connect – she spoke with the perfect blend of theory and humour, and had the audience riveted.
Vassili Christodoulou, former Head of Programmes, The School of Life, Global: In her time with The School of Life, Susan has been the bedrock of the relationships programme. Her masterclasses consistently received exceptional ratings from participants, both for the content and her own skill as a facilitator. Feedback from her most recent classes included: “life-changing”, “fabulous”, “endless invaluable advice”. In an industry saturated by technocratic advice, Susan’s emotionally intelligent and nuanced approach helped us distinguish the School of Life’s offering and ensure our success.
Mark, attendee at workshop for The School of Life, London: My experience in your workshop has left a mark on me that I will not forget for a long time.
Andrew Stead, MD of Your Daily Bread, London: Susan is a rarity. She is a complete delight to work with from start to finish. As you would expect, she knows her stuff, however she is also incredibly accommodating and effective. She genuinely seeks to achieve the right outcomes for people. Her content and delivery are excellent and it’s not just me that thinks that, the feedback we take from attendees confirms it whole heartedly. I could not recommend Susan more highly.
Laura Griffiths co-organiser, Love, Sex and Intimacy Fair: Meeting Susan was the defining moment when we knew our event was worth pursuing. She offered infectious enthusiasm and proved an invaluable ally. Her talks and workshops were highly praised – she is wise, warm and simply wonderful!
Erica Martin, The Royal and Derngate Theatre, Northampton: We were extremely privileged to have Susan Quilliam with us for a workshop with our community group, The Actors Company. An important insight for the actor on making their unconscious body language conscious, a workshop I would thoroughly recommend for any actor. Thank you Susan for specifically tailoring your workshop to the needs of our rehearsals and for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. As a director it was fascinating to see how engaged our actors were and how your encouragement to draw on previous experiences improved their current performance so dramatically and so instantaneously.
Anne Hawkins, The Inspired Group, Cambridge: In the seven years the group has been running I have never seen a more consummate and confident performance… unanimous in their praise… now the group brings.. even more insight into their businesses. I recommend Susan without reservation as a speaker … she makes the process of hiring a facilitator effortless and gets results that have a long-lasting and beneficial effect.
